Testosterone is a steroid hormone naturally produced in the body. Among other things, it’s responsible for the maintenance of secondary sex characteristics, like growth of body hair and muscle mass. Hypogonadism is a condition in which a man has low testosterone and may experience symptoms, including decreased sexual desire, erectile dysfunction, fatigue, depression, hair loss and decreased strength. A simple blood test can be used to determine if you have low testosterone.
Treatment options may include gels, injections and implants. Patients with breast cancer or prostate cancer should not take testosterone supplements.
